Hood River Area Trail Stewards (HRATS) Update
Updated trails information
Post Canyon: We had 1/2″ of rain in the last 48 hours, and that means the dirt is great. Get it now before the heat returns next week. If you’re out riding, be aware that Hood River County has reopened the Northwest Area to OHV use. Expect dirt bikes and quads on the upper trails, and please yield the right-of-way to our motorized trail cousins. Want peace and quiet? Consider heading over to the east side to ride the Kitchen Sink trail, because that’s still closed to motorized users. “What’s the Sink?”, you ask? It’s a dirt bike trail trail that takes off from the north end of Surveyor’s Ridge. If you like rocks and roots, this one’s for you.
Drive south on Highway 35. Take a left at the saw mill. Follow that road. When it T’s, take a right. Follow that road for a bit to a sharp left. Continue uphill. When the road splits and turns to gravel, go right and park in the wide area. Ride your bike up the gravel road. When it hits pavement, take a left. Keep riding until you see the power lines. Just before the power lines, take the skid trail to the right, and then make a right turn onto the trail in at the bottom of the skid trail. That’s the #310. Follow it. It climbs and winds and crosses a few dirt roads. After a short, steep climb, you’ll cross a rocky quad trail. Go straight. Take the next right, a loose, rocky trail with a sign reading “310”. After another climb, you’ll come to an intersection with a #310 marker and a blue and black option. Go right, the black option, down some switchbacks and cross the road, where you’ll pick up the trail again. After that, you’re home free. Touch the sink for good luck, add a sticker, and follow the trail back to your car. Approximately 12 miles, including the road climb, with 1500′ of climbing or so.
44 Road Trails: All the 44 Road trails that were closed due to the Government Flats Fire have reopened. Enjoy. The dirt should be perfect up there too. Keep your eyes open for Chanterelles and boletus edulis.
Hospital Hill, Whoopdee, and Puke Hill: Still closed due to fire danger per the landowners. Do not trespass, as you will be cited, and you will be risking access for everyone. Don’t do it. Please and thank you.
Nestor Peak and Buck Creek: Open and riding great!
