Throwback Thursday: Chainsmoke
Shot entirely on 16mm film, Chainsmoke is packed with racing, freeriding, interviews, crashes, and an awesome soundtrack. Featuring Shaun Palmer, Tinker Juarez, Alison Sydor, Myles Rockwell, Missy Giove, Cadel Evans (before he was a Tour de France star), and many others! Chainsmoke was one of the first mountain bike movies that ushered in a new era of action packed riding. A movie that actual seemed to have a budget more then $10, and a handheld video recorder. It spawned a sequel also. This was the movie that helped make it cool to wear moto gear instead of spandex. It was the hey day of mountain biking. With over the top personalities like Giove and Palmer. I remember seeing it at Interbike at it’s world premier put on by its main sponsor FOX clothing. People where amazed at what they were seeing. Mountain Bike movies had finally made it to the excitement level of their motocross brethren. I believe that there was only one movie at this level before them. The movie PLUSH. Which was put out by the now defunct PLUSH magazine. Which was the Decline magazine of it’s time.
