5. T503: Where are you from?
JK: Port Orchard Washington
6. T503: What is your first cycling memory?
JK: Going out to Peninsula Indoor BMX and racing on my 16″ bike in 5 and under novice.
7. T503: How did you get started in racing?
JK: My dad and myself were riding around some dirt jumps and rode them to the end of the trail one day and found South Kitsap BMX and got hooked.
8. T503: What is one piece of your preparation that you feel is unique to you and no one else?
JK: Nothing really unique, but lots of sleep
9. T503: What has influenced you the most in your cycling career so far?
JK: My desire to win keeps pushing me to train and push myself on the track.
10. T503: What makes a good BMX racer?
JK: Being consistent and staying healthy
11. T503: How much of BMX is preparation, & how much is luck?
JK: Luck is when preparation meets the opportunity, 100% preparation and 0% luck
12. T503: What is the key to a good gate start?
JK: Finding the position that helps you get to your second pedal the fastest and strongest, everyone is different!
13. T503: What is your favorite memory/story from the 2013 season?
JK: Winning the first day in Phoenix, which also happened to be my first A pro win
14. T503: What was the hardest obstacle to overcome on your way to becoming a pro?
JK: Being in the Northwest the weather isn’t always the greatest but luckily I have an indoor facility at Peninsula Indoor BMX and get to stay dry when it’s wet outside
15. T503: What is it like riding for a sponsor who has such a deep heritage in the sport of BMX?
JK: I love it! Redline makes the best quality parts as well as frames!
16. T503: Who in the current BMX industry inspires you, and why?
JK: Sam Willoughby, he pushed harder than anyone else to get to the point where he is today and he keeps pushing harder to stay on top!
17. T503: A lot of cyclists switch or compete in multiple disciplines. Such as Caroline Buchanan, & Jared Graves who have both done World Cup Mountain Biking & BMX. Have you ever been interested in giving something else a try?
JK: I have, but at the same time it’s difficult to be a diverse and successful rider such as Buchanan and Graves
18. T503: Anyone you would like to thank before you go?
JK: Mom and dad for always pushing me to be a better person on and off the track, all my previous managers Dan Bushnell, Efriam Miranda, Jesse Vargas, as well as my coach Paul Caldwell and many others.
