2014 NWTA Membership Drive
(all month)

Membership in the Northwest Trail Alliance supports a range of events and programs which give back to our local trails. NWTA works hard to maintain and build access for mountain bikers from Tillamook State Forest to Mt. Hood. Membership dollars provide necessary financial support, while member numbers lend legitimacy in the eyes of the land managers and planners we work with on a day-to-day basis. This month, we’re pushing to exceed over 1000 members; we’re confident we can do it with your help.

Now is the time to become a member, or to renew is your membership has lapsed. Your NWTA membership also makes you an IMBA member, meaning you’ll be supporting mountain bike advocacy at the national level, as well as gaining access to pro deals on all kind of retail items through Promotive (www.promotive.com). And if you’re in the market for a new car to get you to the trailhead, Subaru offers financial discounts to IMBA members on new car purchases. Go above and beyond the standard membership with a tax-deductible donation to NWTA before June 18th and earn additional rewards. Sign up today.

Mt St Helens Coldwater Lake
Work Event & Campout

To celebrate National Trails Day, we will be out in force at Coldwater Lake on the north side of Mount St. Helens on Saturday, June 7th.

Last year’s work party drew only 75 volunteers. We are aiming for 100 this time, so get your name on the list and start browbeating your friends. NO DOGS AT THIS EVENT.

To say the project is a large one is a sizable understatement. The scope includes work on a 12-mile loop comprised of the 211, 230, and 230A. Last year, we also hit about a mile of the 230A from the back of Coldwater Lake toward St. Helens Lake. Depending on the number of volunteers and the snow conditions, we are hoping to do more in this area.

Last year’s epic end-of-the-day party will be hard to beat, but we will do our best.

Camping spots are available both Friday and Saturday nights. Contact Mel atbikeschic@yahoo.com to reserve a spot. Also, there is a high likelihood that those who stay Saturday night will ride on Sunday.

All details regarding crew assignments, tools, etc. will be available as we get closer.

Mountain Man Challenge:
Bear Springs ST & XC Races

The Challenge

The Fat Tire Farm and Hurricane Racing are taking mountain bike racing back to its roots. When men and women weren’t pigeon-holed into genres and sub-genres of racing a mountain bike. Downhilling involved a timed hillclimb.

So here’s the challenge: complete four races across all genres of modern mountain biking. To be competitive in the overall requires speed going down and up–from flow to technical trails, you’ve got to be able to do it all. All races carry points toward an overall title.

This race is open to all, and we’d love to see some new faces out there. In order to make it more accessible, we’ve tried to keep the cost of entry down. And, you don’t need an OBRA license to race.
