All info from the HRATS & http://hrats.org/

You want local trail news? We got local trail news for you.

The most exciting news possible…
We’ve got insurance again. Our former general liability insurance was through IMBA, and when they had too many claims, we lost our policy. That brought our work parties to an abrupt halt. Thanks to the hard work of Jon Davies at Columbia River Insurance, we have new insurance and can get back to work building, repairing, and maintaning trails. Now, all we need is some rain!

Actually, we have more exciting news than that…

Kleeway work party: August 16th!

The Kleeway has been approved! Kleeway? Matt Klee’s dream, about to become reality. Seven Streams a bit crowded for your taste? That problem is about to go away with a new one-way downhill draining traffic from Family Man, GP, Charley’s and Spaghetti Factory. It’s a big project, but it’s going to be amazing – an all-levels, professionally built trail. The trail adopters need your help for this Hood River County work party. Meet at Family Man at 8:30 on Saturday, August 16th to help toss sticks off the trail corridor to prep it for digging when the rains come. We need all hands on deck. RSVP by clicking here. Do you have more money than free time? Click here to make a donation in support of the Kleeway!

Call for new HRATS board members
and interim president.

We’ve been around for a few years now, and we’ve had the same board (with a few additions) this whole time. Our board members are ready to hand over the reins to some new steel horse riders. That’s you! Want to build your resume, your connections with other pedal-spinners, and earn massive amounts of brown pow karma? Come to our meeting on Tuesday, September 16th at 5:30 at the Hood River Fire Station and see what it takes to be involved. We’d love to have you! In addition to new BOD folks, we’re looking for someone to fill the role of president for the next 6 months. We know that nobody can fill Matt Klee’s shoes, but you can help us make this transition.

Seen those blue flags out in the woods yet? No? Well, when you do, smile, because photographer Grant Myrdal has been out shooting photos of riders in Post Canyon. He shot our banner photo for this email, and he might just have photos of you too. So smile big, and shred hard!

A million thanks to the 6th Street Bistro and Loft for their Singletrack Burger program. Any time you order a Singletrack burger in the month of August, they’ll give us $1. They gave us a good chunk of money from June, so let’s do better in August. Go eat Singletrack burgers and you’ll be helping your HRATS make trails better!

Hospital Hill and Whoopdee are CLOSED until further notice due to extreme fire danger.

It happens every year, and we always hope it will happen later rather than sooner, but this is turning into the worst wildfire season the Northwest has seen in a long, long time. The Stevenson and Kreps families own Hospital Hill and the land the Whoopdee travels. These landowners let us use their acres most of the year, but they don’t want to end up with one of those NWCC fire icons in the Gorge. When fire danger goes to level III, they close the land. It’s closed now. Please respect their wishes and stay off these trails until you hear from us that they’ve reopened. Need more incentive? If you’re caught, you’ll be cited with trespassing, and you may cost all of us access in the future.Thank you!

Want something else to ride? It’s all open: Boulder Lakes, 450, Gunsight (with trees down), Siouxon-Huffman, Lewis River, Fifteenmile, etc., etc., etc. Go get some dirt!

IMBA Trail Care Crew Visit – free trailbuilding classes and a mega work party in the works!

We are honored to have the IMBA trail care crew coming to visit from October 16-19 this year to help us get all of you caught up on the latest and greatest in trailbuilding information. We’ll have indoor classes and outdoor practical work to do, hopefully on the Kleeway, should rainfall permit. Cross your fingers for lots of early season rain. And if not, join us for a great education in trailbuilding and some awesome trail projects. And… did we mention this is free?
