Backcountry presents: Outervention Cascadia

Ep. 1: Our Epic Mountain Bike Adventure

On our second Outervention, we took Justin on a road trip from Seattle to Squamish for a 10-day mountain bike trip. This long-time Backcountry customer builds custom homes and raises a 3-year-old—which can make getting outside a challenge. In the first episode, Justin meets up with Gearhead Kendall, pro rider Brooklyn Bell, and ambassador Kait to gear up at our Seattle store and hit the trails in Bellingham for some sweet flows and big drops.

Ep. 2: Mountain Biking In Squamish

In episode 2 of Outervention Cascadia, customer Justin, Gearhead Kendall, and ambassadors Brooklyn Bell and Kait take on the undulating, technical trails of Squamish. Full of wooden skinnies, spicy climbs, low-speed drops, and tight maneuvers that can only be described as “janky,” the Squamish mountain bike trails challenged the crew’s creativity—and they told us what they look for in riding partners to help solve the puzzle.

What they’re riding:

Justin White: Pivot Switchblade Pro XT/XTR

Brooklyn Bell: Juliana Maverick Carbon CC X01 Eagle Reserve

Kendall Zylstra: Evil Bikes The Wreckoning Custom Build

Kait VanHoff: Santa Cruz Bicycles Hightower Carbon C GX Eagle AXS

Ep. 3: Mountain Biking in the Pacific Northwest with Rémy Métailler

In episode 3, our crew meets up with mountain biking professional Rémy Métailler to ride some of Squamish’s classic mountain bike trails. He showed us his techniques for how to ride slab on a mountain bike, and they took their knowledge to the In-N-Out Slab. Next up, the crew heads to Whistler for the biggest air and gnarliest trails of the trip.

What they’re riding:

Justin White: Pivot Switchblade Pro XT/XTR

Brooklyn Bell: Juliana Maverick Carbon CC X01 Eagle Reserve

Kendall Zylstra: Evil Bikes The Wreckoning Custom Build

Kait VanHoff: Santa Cruz Bicycles Hightower Carbon C GX Eagle AXS

Remy Metailler: Propain Tyee

EP. 4: Mountain Biking Whistler & Reflecting

In the final episode of Outervention Cascadia, the crew put on their full-face helmets to take on riding Whistler Bike Park. With Rémy Métailler still in tow, they found pro lines and sent it over tabletops, down steep slabs (with their skills from episode 3), and even hit the famous Oakley Sender hip jump. The group also reflects on what being outside means to them and what mountain biking in Whistler, Squamish, and Bellingham has done to help them recharge.

What they’re riding:
Justin White: Pivot Switchblade Pro XT/XTR
Brooklyn Bell: Juliana Maverick Carbon CC X01 Eagle Reserve
Kendall Zylstra: Evil Bikes The Wreckoning Custom Build
Kait VanHoff: Santa Cruz Bicycles Hightower Carbon C GX Eagle AXS
