Whoopdee Extension: Our trail builders are hard at work and could use your help. If interested in helping or perhaps adopting one of these new sections of the Whoopdee trail to curate like your backyard, please email joebenedetti@gmail.com.
The long-awaited equestrian, running, and hiking trail is in the works! Hood River County sees this project as important to help alleviate congestion of non-similar transport modalities. Allowing horses and other non-wheeled travelers a space makes it safer for everyone. It will be meandering in nature and include some small obstacles like logs and small ravines that make it interesting for horses. The new trail will extend from the Binns Hill area to near family man with an estimated 6 miles of trail. Creek crossings, horse hitching posts, and picnic tables will be strategically placed along the way. We have a short section of trail flagged and ready to dig. If interested in helping please go to the: Post Canyon equestrian/runner/hiker trail Facebook page or email coreymhoffman@gmail.com.
If you’re unable to fling dirt please consider donating to our Fall Fundraiser in support of our new trail projects (more is always better) To donate, visit our webpage
CultureSeed Van fundraiser update:
Thank you to our mountain bike community for reaching out and helping CultureSeed in their effort to fundraise for a second van. They were able to meet their goal this summer! Transportation is a big barrier to the participation of underserved and underrepresented youth in outdoor excursions and peer support groups around the gorge. The addition of a van helps lower this transportation barrier and allows youth to enjoy activities such as mountain biking in Post Canyon! To learn more about CultureSeed and donate click HERE.
Familias at Family Man:
Familias at Family turned out to be a great first step in connecting spanish-speaking families with a great community event. Paco’s Tacos provided the burritos (which sold out!), School of Send and HRATS members provided bikes to ride, Hood River County Prevention and Lion’s Club provided donated helmets, and Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation along with HRATS helped sponsor the event. Thank you to Cleary Bikes for the donation of a bike for a lucky raffle winner at the end of a fun night!
Seeking HRATS Volunteer Coordinator:
HRATS is looking for a friendly trail enthusiast to help us organize work parties and recruit volunteers to keep our trails in good shape. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with the Adopter Liaison to help with trail maintenance and trail building needs identified by our local trail adopters. The Volunteer Coordinator should enjoy working with people, be enthusiastic about mountain biking, and have strong communication skills. Prior trail-building experience is appreciated but not required. HRATS board member appointments are three-year terms. We hope to find someone interested in sticking around and helping for multiple build seasons. Please contact: spaeth.andrew@gmail.com.
Seeking HRATS FUNdraisers:
We’re looking for a few passionate, energetic folks to join our fundraising committee. The committee works year-round but with an average commitment of a few hours a month and an effort peaking around our large spring fundraiser in April/May. No prior fundraising experience is required. For more info, contact Fundraising Chair Campbell Morrissy.
That’s all for this week.
Thanks for reading!
