Hello Everyone,
A lot is going on with Post Canyon right now. Let’s start with the best news.
HRC purchased the Haglund property along Post Canyon Rd below the Seven Stream Staging area. This is the land where the owner did minor logging and was permitted a home site. HRC now owns all of the Haglund land, and HRC Forestry will begin restoring the trail on the side of the road on Monday, Sept. 16th. This will allow you to get to 7 Stream on mostly single track. If you are interested in helping, please get in touch with Thomas.moloney@hoodrivercounty.gov to learn how you can help. For those available mid-week, please show your support by helping out. Do not be surprised if an HRATS work party is also used to tune the trail up.
This is huge news, and the story of what it took is long. A huge thank you to HRC Forrestry for not giving up when the outcome looked dim and to the HRC Administrator and Commissioners for seeing the value in public owning this land. HRATS expects this land acquisition to impact Post Canyon’s use significantly. Lastly, there is little chance this land acquisition would have happened without the Parking Pass System.
Whiskey Creek Fire Update:
A map of open and closed trails can be found here. A link to HRC’s latest communication on trail closures is here.
Most of Post Canyon is open, with the below exceptions. The following trails are closed due to damage from fire suppression efforts. They will open when repaired.
- Trail-110/Mitchell Ridge
- Trail-112
- Upper Trail-160/Baby Heads
The bad news is that Trail-133/Borderline and Trail-135/Blade Runner are closed due to damage and are not expected to be repaired. HRATS is working with HRC Forrestry to replace these trails with comparable alternatives.
Dirt will be good soon,
