Hood River Area Trail Stewards: First Fall Newsletter

Simple HRATS Logo

Hello Dirt Devotees,

Our first Fall Newsletter is here, and we’re trying for a little different schedule. Look for it in your inbox every other Wednesday until the ground is too soggy or frozen.

Shadow Trail Work Party: Sunday, October 20th at 9:00am:

Shadow Trail

Shadow will be a new, primarily hand-built trail eventually connecting Eldorado to Remix championed by Jeff Blackman. We need all hands on deck for this work party. Please, if you have time, meet at Family Man (9:00 a.m. Sunday). We will break into groups and go to the trail from there. Don’t worry about not having skills; there will be a variety of jobs everyone can do. We’d love to have you show up and help make this trail come to life!

For our Northside Hospital Hill users: The trails are getting over grown and our list of helpers is very small. We’ve got tools available in White Salmon for anyone who can help out. Please email: volunteers@hrats.org and help keep these trails open.

Veterans Day Ride in Cascade Lock: November 11th, 10am-2pm: The Northwest Trail Alliance is hosting a free, fun-filled day with Veterans and supporters to honor those who have served. This is a group MTB ride and BBQ social. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/veterans-day-ride-tickets-1040183646287

Our weekend of fundraisers was a huge success! Across the movie night on Friday and the Shuttle Day on Saturday, we raised over $7,500 – easily hitting our match goal. We were excited to showcase the Patagonia film Fire Lines by local filmmaker Gordon Klco, which offered a broader perspective on forest use and wildfire. If you missed this event, the movie is free on Patagonia’s website: https://www.patagonia.com/stories/fire-lines/video-153372.html. Saturday’s shuttle day was another hit, shuttling over 100 riders up to Kingsley for an awesome day of fall riding. We are so grateful to all of our sponsors: Cooper Spur, Hood River Mountain Bike Adventures, Mountain View Cycles, School of Send, Goodwynn’s Mountain Supplies, Stoked Roasters and Coffeehouse, Rosauers, and pFriem Family Brewers.Thank you to all who participated!

Hood River County Map:

HRC Map 2

HRC has just released a new online mapping system that will help communicate Post Canyon trail status with users. You can find the Web-based map at https://webmap.hoodrivercounty.gov/trail. The map is the best tool for frequent Post Canyon users to see what trails are open and which are closed. Closed trails will be marked in Red, and trails being built, like the new Shadow Trail will be shown in Pink. For you shuttlers, you can even see what gates are unlocked on the Forest roads. It will likely be the best way for visitors who need to learn about the area to navigate the system. However, you do need cell service to get the map. HRC plans to put QR codes throughout the system so visitors can access the map. Please look at the map system on your computer today. It will be how HRATS communicates trail closures in the future.

Thanks for reading,

HRATS
