Hood River Area Trail Stewards Update

Simple HRATS Logo

Hello Trail Lovers,

In this newsletter, we will highlight some new trails currently under development.

The first is the Shadow Trail, which we mentioned in our last newsletter regarding the work party. Thank you to everyone who attended. HRATS is excited to support this by funding work to rough in the trail. This great, intermediate hand-finished trail will provide an alternative to The 140 from the top of Eldorado to Remix. The trail should help reduce potential mountain bike and motorcycle user conflicts during the spring and fall months on The 140. Look for more volunteer opportunities and work parties in the near future.

Shadow Trail

The second trail is B-Side. This trail is anticipated to be approved by Hood River County on October 31st. The trail will be a hand-built, advanced trail that can be ridden from A-Side or entered from the top of Upper Grand Prix/bottom of BMS extending to the bottom of The 140. The flag line shows a fun yet more aggressive fall line. Contact Maurizio at (541) 490-2964 if you want to help build this trail.

B-Side

The third trail is the Phelps Creek Trail. Work on the equestrian-no-wheel trail started last spring, and the first ½ mile is finished from Family Man to the creek area, with another 1.7 miles that have been cut in but need some shaping. If the weather allows, there will be opportunities to finish this section this fall, which would get the trail to the bottom of the Binns Hill climb. Stay tuned for additional work parties.

Equestrian/Hiker/Runner Trail

The fourth trail is The Whoopdee’s final extension, which is currently in the works, connecting the outer extension section (mid-Nascar Joe to Elder Road) to Whoop It Up (the climb back to the parking lot). The new section has you surfing through the oaks and prairie grass for just over two miles, bringing the outer loop to 13.3 miles.

A reminder of the Veterans Day Ride in Cascade Locks: November 11th, 10am-2pm.

The Northwest Trail Alliance is hosting a free, fun-filled day with Veterans and supporters to honor those who have served. This is a group MTB ride and BBQ social.

Happy Trails,

HRATS
