Hello Trail Lovers,
We have a few updates for you.
Trails Closed on Local Private Land
Trails on private forest lands in our area have been closed due to the Industrial Fire Protection Level being at level 3. The areas affected are, but not limited to, the Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood Mountain. Please spread the word that these trails are closed. Our use of the trails on private land is a privilege, so please respect these closures.
Requirements for Vehicles Traveling on Forest Roads
We have gotten a few questions about requirements for vehicles traveling on forest roads from our July 30th email to all of you. It said the following:
“All vehicles traveling on county forest roads will be required to have a shovel and a gallon of water or a 2 ½ pound fire extinguisher or larger.”
What does this mean for you? The simplest and most responsible take from this is that everyone driving a vehicle on local gravel roads should follow the guidelines by carrying the recommended gear to put out a small fire, which includes driving to 7 Streams, Family Man, and Binns Hill, allowing a vast number of trail users the opportunity to stop a fire before it becomes a disaster. Otherwise, trail users are more of a fire risk than a potential safeguard.
The fire at Syncline highlights how trail access can be lost. A fire in Post Canyon or on private lands would create an even greater disaster for our trail systems. Please be part of the solution.
