Jay Bearhead’s story is one of resilience, healing, and hope.
While filming The Engine Inside with Jay Bearhead, Canada marked its first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in 2021.
After enduring childhood trauma, residential school abuse, addiction, and homelessness, Jay found a path forward through mountain biking. What began as two wheels and a trail became a lifeline—helping him reconnect with the land, his culture, and himself. Today, Jay mentors Indigenous youth, using bikes to inspire healing, community, and a deeper connection to the outdoors.
This is Part 1 of our The Engine Inside series, highlighting one of the film’s most powerful stories.
