All information from Oregon BMX.

Each track in every state, that has met the criteria of running a minimum amount of local races in a given time period, is awarded an SCR (State Championship Race) double points event. While this SCR is a stand alone event that anyone can race in, it is also part of the overall State Championship Series put on by the Sport’s Sanctioning Body (USABMX). Generally, area tracks will group together their SCR events to encourage larger turn outs and deeper competition in each racing category.

Though the criteria for the State Championship Series changes from year to year, it is fairly simple to follow and track. For example, in Oregon for the current (2014) series, to be eligible to become State Champion, you must compete in a minimum of four (4) SCR events and your best four (4) scores plus your finish at the State Championship Finals (again, in Oregon this year, that SCF is being held in Bend at High Desert BMX September 20-21, 2014).

No matter which category you are competing in during the series, your points will transfer to the category you will be eligible for on the day of the finals. Say you were racing 11 Novice for most of the series but then you turned Intermediate and also turned 12 prior to or on the day of the finals….. your points would transfer to the 12 Intermediate Class for your State Championship Ranking.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can riders from other states race in the series of another state?
A: Absolutely! Though they are not eligible for the title, they can still race any SCR or SCF in any state.

Q: Are there bonus points this year?
A: There are, though the deadline has passed (July 15), if you raced single point races prior to that date, they do count towards your bonus points.

Q: This is our first year racing, is it worth it to race any SCRs or the SCF?
A: Absolutely! The best way to improve your riding and racing skills is to line up with the best of the best and see how you do.

Q: How much are entry fees for the SCRs?
A: In Oregon, the race fees are $20 for SCR double point races.

Q: My son is faster than many of the kids that have raced the entire series, should I hold him out of the finals so he does not mess up any other rider’s points?
A: Absolutely Not! Even of you think you’ll be messing up the awards of other riders, you should always let your child race when they want to. Nobody gets any better if a faster kid is purposely left out of the race to help someone that is not as fast or experienced.

Q: It is almost August, is it too late to race in the series?
A: No, it is not too late. August 2-3, 2014, there are four (4) SCRs in the Portland area and the third week of August, there is one more in Eugene.
