Super Rider: Ride Over It! An Unexpected Way To Learn This MTB Skill

Riding up ledges and obstacles can be a daunting skill to learn, but we’ve figured out a way to practice WITHOUT any obstacles. You can pick up the entire technique on flat ground, build your confidence and control, and then apply it to an obstacle or ledge when you are ready.

In this video we’ll break down the pedal up (or “punch” technique as it is sometimes called) into two main parts: standing wheelie and pedal scoop. We’ll practice both skills individually, and then put them together in a rocking motion on flat ground. That same rocking motion applies perfectly when you’re ready to ride up a ledge, you’ll be surprised how easily this skill transfers.

Remember to always start your pedal ups with your opposite foot forward, that way your strong (forward) foot comes around at the perfect time.
