Hood River Area Trail Stewards Update: Shuttle Day, new trails, fundraising

Hey friends,

Happy fall and welcome back to our seasonal newsletter. Here’s the latest local trails news.

Oct. 7 is Shuttle Day!
The annual Fall shuttle day fundraiser returns on Saturday October 7th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A $45 suggested donation gets you a full day of shuttle laps to Binn’s Hill and beyond. Shuttles run from the bottom of Post Canyon Road. Shuttle Day is a drop-in event, so all you need to do is show up, sign up, grab a donut, and hop in. (Consider carpooling or parking at Family Man and riding down to ease parking congestion.) This event wouldn’t be possible with our excellent sponsors: Brave Endeavors, Cooper Spur Alpine Team, School of Send, and Mountain View Cycles.

Fall Funding Needs
We’ve got the green light on several awesome projects (thanks to significant coordination and hard work with our partner—Hood River County (HRC)), but we’re a little short on cash. We’re calling on our generous supporters (that’s you) to help raise $15,000 and/or volunteer time for these dream trails:

Whoopdee Extension: A new section will add 7-plus miles of new trail on the east side of the valley. The route takes advantage of some of the most unique and varied natural terrain in the Gorge and with mile after mile of signature Whoopdee flow through forests, glades, and meadows. After several years of planning and prepping, trail builders started cutting dirt last May and made it halfway before summer shutdown. The target for this fall is to have several miles of trail open to ride and the entire new loop connected by spring.

New Post Trails: TWO new descending trails in the works! (Trail #1—north of Uptrack—will be hand-built by Maurizio von Flotow and his crew as a difficult, intermediate, technical route. Trail #2—from the top of UpTrack located in the old 8 Track zone—will be a playful, pumpy, flowy way down for beginners to skilled riders. This machine-built trail is funded by the grant HRC just won and is spearheaded by HRATS’s own Craig Spaeth.

Continuing the Family Man Redesign:
· Middle School jump line near Fifth Grade with a high roll-in ramp
· School of Rock rock garden at the end of First Grade
· A warm-up trail just south of Family Man (Funded by HRC’s grant)
· An adaptive accessible trail in the Middle of Family Man (Funded by HRC’s grant)
· Big upgrades to the eastside line
· New trail signage
· Pumptrack cleanup
· More vault toilets and parking spots (Funded by HRC’s grant)

We humbly to ask you to pitch in what you can toward our $15,000 goal to fund these fall projects.

Join the FUNdraising committee
The fundraising committee is recruiting members to aid in the planning and execution of HRATS fundraising events. We are looking for 3-5 folks who are passionate about HRATS’ mission and would like to get involved in the efforts we rely on to generate revenue. The committee will work year round, but with an average commitment of only a few hours a month but with an effort peak around our large spring fundraiser in April/May. No prior fundraising experience is required. Interested people should contact our Fundraising chair, Campbell Morrissy – campbell.morrissy@gmail.com.
